Title: Frigid
Author: J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout)
Publication: July 30th, 2013
Publisher: Spencer Hill Contemporary
Rating: 4 out of 5

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Review:

Long story short: Frigid is about Sydney and Kyler finding their feelings for each other when they're snowed in (all alone) for a week. This story is in both characters point of views. Now the review!

Let's start with Sydney

Sydney is one of our main characters. She has a best friend - Kyler - who she's been in love with ever since he pushed her down on the playground. They became friends after she made him eat mudpie as vengeance. The problem is how much of a playboy Kyler is. He sleeps with any female that flirts with him and it stomps Syndeys' heart every time she see's him with a girl that's NOT her... which is all the time. She quickly covers up her tears with smiles and pretends nothing is out of the ordinary.

When the snowstorm hits Kylers' home - where they were vacationing for break - vulnerability starts to set in. She was hurt by a past boyfriend who called her frigid when they tried to have sex. It was very awkward for her since it was her first time and she didn't know what to do. Instead of her ex showing her how to make love properly, he fumbled in bed, then talked about how poorly she preformed to his friends. Sydney get's vulnerable fast, and that's part of the reason I like her. You can tell how much she cares for Kyler, and it's heartwarming to see the story progress into a happy love story. I would take the same actions as Sydney if I was in the same predicament, so I can relate to her thoughts and feelings.

"I planted my hands on his chest and lifted my head.
He started up at me, smiling. My breath caught and I felt dizzy. "You're beautiful."
Kyler reached up, brushing my hair from my face and tucking it back behind my ear. "I think that's my line."
"You think I'm beautiful?"
His gaze roamed over my face like he was committing every freckle to memory. Giddiness swept through me, like I was caught up in a bubble. "I've always though you were beautiful, Syd."
The world was bright and shiny and new. "Really?"
"Yeah," he replied, his hand falling away from my hair, back to my hip. "Yeah, I have.""

Now on to Kyler

Kyler is the second point of view in Frigid. As I said above, he's a man-slut. His mother opened a bar business that sky rocketed and everyone expects him to take over in the future, so in the beginning of the book he was going for a degree in business. He has a fun sarcastic humor that I'd want my boyfriend to have, and to top everything off he has an amazing runners body. Lean hardened muscle and oh-so-scrumpish looks. From the way Jen was describing him I'd like someone like Kyler too!

He's very possessive with Sydney which I found adorable. He's not like Daemon when it comes to that; Daemon is aggressive toward other males. Kyler is very laid back, but he doesn't let her go and tries to protect her from herself, which happens often in the book. He feels like Sydney is too good for him and would never look in his direction. When the power goes out and sexual tension starts to ensue… well, he's male.

The writing

Since this is a Jennifer Armentrout book there's always pointing out how repetitive she is on every page. Brows where (at least 3 times in ever chapter) either raised, slammed down, or arched in some way, Kyler always "thrusted" his fingers in his hair, and the word "fuck" or "shit" was on every page. I understand this is a new adult novel, but the swearing thing has to stop. They said the f-bomb in sentences that really didn't need to be in there. It was crude and unnecessary.

WARNING: this book reads like an adult romance novel. The only reason why I believe it's deemed "New Adult" is because how old they are (early 20's). If they were older this would be a legit romance novel. If I was 16 and reading this I'd probably skip some parts out of embarrassment. This book gets really steamy… Jen is very verbal with actions and word choices. She literally explains the sex that's going on. If you've never read an adult romance book this is pretty much what you're getting.

This isn't a bad thing for me. I own all of Gena Showalter's Lord of the Underworld series, Larissa Ione's Demonica series, and can't get enough of Christine Feehan's Dark Carpathian series. I'm just warning people that this more than a New Adult book.

I really enjoyed Frigid and recommend this to you! I wasn't a fan of her last book, Wait For You, but I'm glad I picked this one up. It was a quick read and enjoyable. It lost a point for how repetitive so many parts were. I know this is easily disregardable to people, but it isn't to me. I was legit annoyed with how many times they put their hands on each others hips, and in every sex scene an emotion or action "slammed" into them. It was always the hips. -_-

Enjoy one of my favorite steamy scenes:

"I ran my hands up his chest and over his broad shoulders. His muscles flexed under my touch. His weight came down on me, inch by torturous inch, until my legs tangled with his. The material of his jeans against my bare skin brought forth a sweet rush. My hips tilted up, and he groaned in a way that made me yearn for more. His lower body pressed down against mine, and I could feel him.
Kyler's lips left mine and before I could mourn their loss, they were on my throat, trailing a heated path to my chest. He took his time there, his hands and mouth leaving me breathless. I moved against him, my fingers digging into his back. And then he went further south, his lips making their way down my stomach, around my belly button, and then on to the flare of my hip."

Sounds great, and thanks for review. Love it :)

I have yet to read anything by J Lynn but I am a big fan of Armentrouts Lux Series. Love the GIF that you used at the beginning

I am 30, but I still think that the likelihood of me reading this is slim to none. I understand that authors will use curse words, but I am not a fan of them being thrown into every sentence on every page for no reason other than to use them. It is a huge turn off for me. Other than that, or should I say if it wasn't for that, I think that this is a story that I could enjoy. Too bad..... Thank you for your review!

Great review and your pictures are so funny!

I have too many to list. On is Sleeping Beauty

I enjoy most genres except erotica and heavily sexed scenes use of a lot of profanity

Since I am not one of those to shy away from a book that contains graphically detailed sex scenes I might give this book a try!
